FISD MEDIA GUIDELINES (Fall 2020)
The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented conditions for our athletic programs, and for that reason our media and credentialing protocols have been updated. As we follow health and safety guidelines from local and state health officials, the Texas Education Agency and University Interscholastic League, it will be impossible for us to accommodate media outlets the way we have in the past. We will do our best under the challenging circumstances.
Every situation cannot be addressed in these protocols. If you have a question, please email Frisco ISD Athletics Facilitator Matt Wixon (wixonm@friscoisd.org).
Media Inquiries
For all sports, if you want to interview an athlete or coach on campus, email Facilitator for Athletics Matt Wixon. Please do not show up on a campus unannounced, whether for an interview or to take photos or video.
Media Credentials and Guidelines (Fall 2020)
Cross Country
Events will not take place on FISD campuses. Please follow rules of race directors at sites.
Team Tennis
Photos can be taken from outside court fences. Please maintain adequate social distance.
Volleyball
Due to social-distancing requirements, only parents/immediate family of players will be able to purchase tickets to FISD volleyball matches.
Media members can attend by emailing Matt Wixon at least 24 hours in advance of the match.
Media members must wear a mask
Media members can sit in the stands
No courtside access (photos can be taken from along gym wall, beyond basketball baseline)
No face-to-face postgame interviews (can be set up with coach to do by phone)
Football
Due to social-distancing requirements, FISD venues will be capped far below spectator capacity. Our press boxes will also have strict occupancy limits.
Media members must request credentials by 6 p.m. Monday on the week of the game by filling out the credential request form:
The early notice is necessary because most media members will be seated in the stands and we need to know where to put people as all tickets sold will be reserved seats.
Media members must wear a mask
Press box access will be extremely limited, with priority given to media outlets that have regularly covered FISD and that game’s opponent in recent years
No photographers or videographers in press box
Sideline access very limited, with priority given to media outlets that produce content beyond that for social media
No media allowed in Coach/Team/Staff sideline box, which due to social-distancing mandates will be extended from 10-yard line to 10-yard line. Photos and video will need to be taken from end zones.
No face-to-face postgame interviews (can be set up with coach to do by phone)
We know that members of the media will be affected by these changes to our media protocols, but FISD must follow local and state health mandates and prioritize the safety of our students, staff and community. If you have any questions, please contact Matt Wixon.
